Gloomy January, when everybody goes back to work

You’ve just had the highs of Christmas and the New year, there were parties for what seemed like the whole of December and it was a time when you were allowed to get drunk, dance wildly and in your own way, let your hair down for all the hard work you put in for the whole year.

Then comes January and boy this can be a downer!!  I remember getting to January and feeling like “Right I have to go through a whole year again, just to get the highs of Christmas and the New Year again and then January will be here again!!!”

It’s a painful thought process and not a very exciting one to be faced with.

How did I overcome the January and “the coming year” blues?

1. Be part of something that you have an emotional connection with and is bigger than you, your work, your house, your mortgage, your car etc, you get the picture?  This “something” didn’t exist so I created it!!

The personal development practise club

2. Plan when you are going to partake in this activity for the coming year, once a week/month, every day

One weekend city break abroad every 2 months

3. Schedule in some regular reflection time to take stock of your enjoyment levels with this activity

When I get back from the weekend break

4. Be realistic about other stuff that might pop-up to take up your time.

Hmm, school holidays, kids commitments, parental responsibilities, funds

5. Don’t plan too much!!

One weekend abroad every 2 months seems like something to aim for, it might be too much, but I could always not go

Have fun…..

Tangible ideas start off as compelling thoughts

Have you ever stopped and thought about this?

Some of the worlds most popular ideas today, things that changed the way the world works and essentially the way we interact with each other, just started off as thoughts in an individual’s mind -

- the humble light bulb - Thomas Alva Edison

- the rubber band - William HSpencer

- the telephone - Alexander Graham Bell

- programmable computers - Konrad Zuse

Q – Why did those idea come to life?

  •       One reason was because the individual persevered to make his/her idea come to life
  •       The individual took action
  •       The individual was relentless
  •       The individual wanted nothing more than to bring an idea of their own, to life

It’s all well having an idea or even dreaming a little, but -

  • How many of you will make this year, your year?
  • How many of you will grab an opportunity and do something with it, making it your own?
  • How many of you will continue with this opportunity if you receive a little setback or maybe some negative feedback?

Taking action is a must, but action can come in the smallest and simplest of forms, bite size chunks, remember  -

Roll on the Christmas holidays

All the work parties are done, some people have already finished for the year or are winding down, ready to start their holidays tomorrow. Looking forward to the holidays, getting ready to deliver presents to friends and family, final bits of food shopping for Christmas day. Phew, roll on the holidays, can’t wait for some time out.

For me the whole build up to Christmas is the best part, the various get togethers, the glittering lights in London, the shopping, the children coming up to London for the annual trip to Hamleys and Winter Wonderland, the pressure easing a little from work a chance to shop for friends and family, a chance to splash out for something nice for yourself, gadgets, new clothes, trinkets etc.

Christmas day comes and goes too fast for me and I’m guilty of trying to squeeze every moment out of it, staying up as late as possible just to make sure I don’t waste it and then the Boxing day sales start!!

But I can’t wait for the coming year, because it’s my most planned year so far.  All my holidays are booked, as are all the Personal Development Practise club events for the year.  It feels pretty good having got all this planning out of the way and I think it will be the key to many successes throughout 2012.  I can’t wait!!

What do you want to achieve by January 2013?

This club was setup to help people living in the local West London area, individuals in the area who never find the free time to work on themselves, to reflect on what’s working well for them and what’s not, most importantly, how they want things to be different and what they want to create for themselves.

This club takes place every month and all you have to do is register, turn up and pay £5.00 for 2 hours of varied, fun, exciting, educational, inspiring personal development time.

You may want to achieve something huge, that will be seen by and affect millions, or it could be a personal behaviour change, something you want to start doing differently. Continue reading ‘What do you want to achieve by January 2013?’

First overwhelm video learnings and a second vid

Hi all,

Well this is a quick follow up to the overwhelm video I made a short while back -

I had a lot of feedback from the first video, which really taught me a few things.

The kind of feedback I got was -

- it seemed to too scripted
- you could see me looking over to the auto cue
- I may have been a little too animated for some Continue reading ‘First overwhelm video learnings and a second vid’

Sometimes, you have to let things break

My conclusions after conversations with a few different people, over lunch.

Some people really need to be part of something and be in demand for something. They need to feel wanted, they need to feel acknowledged and be told that they “did a good job”. It’s like validating their existence, the reasons why they are alive, living and breathing and doing what they do.

This “something” can many times be in the form of an individuals job, but can lead to the individuals’ demise, as they get in to a pattern of work that is unsustainable because they give too much of themselves to the job.

I spoke to a friend who is a work colleague of mine, Continue reading ‘Sometimes, you have to let things break’

Find your niche, your passion, but don’t force it

For those of you who know me well,  especially from the networking events that I have been making the odd appearances at, you will know that the world of marketing is a new area for me, or at least it was, for a while.

I wanted to learn how the big guns marketed themselves and how all these Internet marketers grew their businesses, so I went to seminars, more networking events, asked questions, googled loads, watched youtube videos and got a whole heap of information, which confused me somewhat.  Then a common thread started to show itself and a theme emerged.

To start any type of business which involved information selling or publishing and coaching, I had to specialise in a certain area, called a niche (Internet marketing term) and get really interested in it.  Something that I’m already interesting it and have a natural and emotional connection with.
